Bre — Assistant Buyer

Bre — Assistant Buyer

Before becoming the Assistant Buyer for both Men's and Womenswear at Incu, Bre studied Fashion Design at White House Institute of Design in Melbourne. See what's see up to in isolation with her beloved dog Mayo.

To get away from my laptop, and work, I’ve been reading a lot more and been instituting random movie trilogies - from picking a certain actor to a certain topic - it’s been a great way to mix it up.

Tell us a little about yourself. What did you do before Incu?

I’m the Assistant Buyer across both mens and womens departments. I’ve been with Incu for 7 years now, in which time the company has only gone from strength to strength. Prior to that I studied fashion at the Whitehouse Institute of Design in Melbourne (where I claim I’m from but unfortunately the old saying “you can’t take the country out of the girl” rings true). I worked with Melbourne-based label Dress Up by Stephanie Downey, where I assisted with and expanded on my knowledge of the design and production process.

What are you doing while Staying at Home? Are there any hobbies or interests you have taken up during this time to stay stimulated, positive and/or fit?

I’ve really stretched out my morning routine which generally involves too much coffee, the daily news and walks with the doggo (I’ve gotten really obsessed with the news and everything that’s happening, it’s a great way to feel connected).

Aside from the countless Zoom meetings, which have been more fun for all those involved thanks to my technological struggles, I’ve got back into running. Afternoon runs have been a great way to break up the day and also a chance to catch some final rays. I joined Strava again and am now in competition with my brother.

How are you coping with Staying In and Keeping Safe? What are you doing to keep sane during this strange time?

I’ve actually enjoyed staying in and working peacefully from the comfort of home.

I just finished re-watching all the Hannibal Lecter movies. As far as T.V series’ go, if you haven’t watched it, Ozark season three was incredible viewing and for something different Unorthodox was a captivating mini series on a Hasidic Jewish woman fleeing her community.

My British Bulldog, Mayo, has seen her FOMO levels reach new heights as she barely leaves my side, which can be annoying thanks to her snoring! But she does provide plenty of quality photo content and is a great excuse to get out and go for a walk.

I’ve got a couple of books on the go. I’m really into true crime books and Japanese authors. I just finished re-reading The People Who Eat the Darkness by Richard Lloyd Parry, a true story of a young woman who vanished in Tokyo, I’m now onto The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Japanese author Haruki Murakami. I’ve also got Chaos which is all about Charles Manson and the CIA on my bedside table.

I’ve been really enjoying natural wines from my local P&V. Side note, I just discovered a non-alcoholic range called Non 2. They do a Pear and Kombu which tastes almost like cider (genius).

Like everyone else in Australia, I’ve been cooking/baking A LOT. I love to cook, so I've been spending most nights trying new things and recipes. I’m also trying to go to the supermarket less, so I’m limiting waste by trying to utilise what we have in the cupboard into meals. It’s become my own fun ‘Ready, Steady, Cook’ challenge.

What are you grateful for right now?

I’m really grateful for my friends and family throughout this time. I’ve been staying in contact a lot more than in the past, checking in and making sure everyone is doing well. I’m really looking forward to things easing so I can get out and enjoy park hangs with them in person once again.

Lastly, what are some of your favourite Incu picks?

I generally wear everything a little oversized and I’m very casual when it comes to my look and the way I dress. I’m really into vests at the moment, so I love the Echkhaus Latta Purl Tank worn over a t-shirt for a more casual look. I’m obsessed with the Acne Parinne Wool Trousers and so naturally, would pair them back with the Marni Pablo Sneaker
